P6/7 - Mrs Emerson
Welcome to our P6/7 class page! We are looking forward to sharing some of the exciting learning, activities and experiences taking place in our classroom throughout the year.
In P6/7, we work hard, support one another and enjoy learning through a range of practical, creative and engaging activities. From Numeracy and Literacy to WAU, ICT and beyond, there is always something happening!
This page will give you a little glimpse into life in P6/7 and provide an opportunity to celebrate the children's hard work, achievements and memorable moments along the way.
We hope you enjoy seeing what we have been getting up to!
As part of our work on instructional writing, P6/7 have been developing their oracy skills by learning how to give clear and precise instructions. Working in pairs, one pupil created a design and then had to describe it carefully to their partner, without showing them! Their partner listened closely and followed the instructions to try to recreate the original design.
There was lots of great discussion, careful listening and teamwork as we discovered just how important it is to make our instructions clear, detailed and in the correct order. Have a look at how we got on!
Shape
In Numeracy, P6/7 have been exploring the properties of 2D shapes, with a particular focus on triangles. We learnt how triangles can be classified according to the length of their sides and the size of their angles. The children worked together to examine and sort a range of triangles into different groups, explaining the properties that helped them make their decisions.
A great hands-on activity to help us become more confident at recognising, naming and describing different types of triangles!
🎲 Probability in P6/7! 🎲
We were investigating the probability of different events happening. We each rolled the dice 10 times, recorded our results and discussed whether the outcomes matched our predictions.
We then used Just2Data to turn our findings into graphs and charts. 📊💻 A brilliant way to combine our Numeracy, data-handling and ICT skills! 🌟
Fractions
We have been busy developing our fraction skills! One group has been working hard to identify, compare and order fractions by size.
There has been lots of great mathematical thinking, discussion and problem-solving along the way. It’s fantastic to see the children becoming more confident and independent when working with fractions! 🌟👏
As part of our Extreme Weather topic, P6/7 have been learning all about volcanoes. After exploring how volcanoes are formed and why they erupt, the children designed and created their very own volcano models.
The exciting part was putting our creations to the test! Using baking soda and vinegar, we created our own volcanic eruptions and watched our volcanoes come to life. There was lots of excitement, great teamwork and plenty of impressive eruptions!
ICT
P6/7 have been putting our new Micro:bits to good use! The children have been learning how to use coding language to create and run their own programmes. They programmed their Micro:bits to display light-up messages and even explored how coding can be used to create and play games.
It was fantastic to see the children experimenting with their code, solving problems and making changes to get their programmes working successfully!
P.E
We love P.E. in Primary 6/7, especially when we get the chance to head outside, get moving and be active! 🌟
This term, we are developing our ball skills, with a particular focus on improving our accuracy when passing. Through a range of fun drills and activities, we have been practising controlling the ball, aiming carefully and making accurate passes to our teammates.
It’s great to see everyone getting involved, working together and developing their skills while keeping active! 💪⚽
